Micro-concrete furniture has become a trend in 2019

However, because it can be used both indoors and outdoors, it has become a trend in outdoor furniture sector to find micro-cement furniture.

Its composition based on polymers, accelerators, ultra-cold aggregates, aerators and fibres gives it an enormous resistance to adverse weather conditions and inclement weather. What maintenance do micro-cement furniture need?

Micro-cement does not stain as long as the sealing and waterproofing processes have been carried out correctly, so it almost doesn’t require maintenance.

What is recommended is periodic maintenance, cleaning it with neutral soap and water to ensure greater durability and a more profitable amortization of the investment we make in micro-concrete outdoor furniture.

If, in addition to that, the protective layer is renewed from time to time using a water-diluted self-polishing wax, the micro-cement furniture is able to maintain the same aesthetic appearance and properties that had on the first day it was installed.

Finally, if scratches or breaks appear on your micro-concrete surface (something that as we discussed, it is very unlikely) the solution is to sand and wax again the affected surface. A separate case is that a crack arises due to an incorrect application of the micro-cement, a problem that can only be solved by completely covering the entire surface again.

Micro-concrete floor or polished concrete floor: what to choose?

Polished concrete, plastered concrete, smoothed concrete, micro-cement, micro-concrete…

The plastered concrete, also called smoothed or floated concrete is the concrete used for interior floors, which is topped with special smoothing machines (for example, helicopter-type cement planers).

A smoothed concrete floor is often finished with surface hardeners that are applied to the fresh concrete in the form of a dry powder (the so-called DST – dry shake topping), thanks to which it obtains greater strength and better appearance. Such floor is generally used in production plants or warehouses. This floor requires dilation every 4-5 meters, which, unfortunately, still does not guarantee that no cracks appear in the floor.

Polished concrete is smoothed concrete subjected to chemical impregnation, polishing and, if used as a decorative floor (for example, in houses), sealed. This method is used to regenerate existing concrete floors (if they are made of good quality concrete) or to make new floors, both industrial and decorative, in shopping centres, museums, restaurants and airports, among others. The advantage of polished concrete is that, instead of a grey surface, matt and easily dirty, we have a smooth and shiny floor.

Micro cement / micro concrete is a mixture of common cement and special resins. After mixing, it is applied in thin layers (approximately 1-2 mm each) and then impregnated with a polyurethane sealer with a matt, satin or gloss finish, depending on preference.

Micro cement can be used in new floors or in existing substrates: in tiles, terrazzo, OSB boards, etc. Despite being a very thin layer, the system is extremely durable, resistant to abrasion, waterproof and easy to maintain. It allows to obtain a uniform effect without joints, dilatations and without fear of cracks in the ground.

In general, it can be said that polished concrete looks good on large open surfaces, where minor defects or imperfections at the corners will not be so noticeable. It can be used in houses when we have, say, 100 m2 of space (for example, the whole ground floor in a single-family house: corridor, living room, open kitchen). In the case of smaller areas, a much better solution will be microcement.

Stabilized moss

Coming from northern Europe, the Stellaris Cladonia species is a very special moss that can be used for acoustic interior panels that do not require maintenance, light or water. It has a variety of colours and can be used in various ways to incorporate elements of vegetation to any structure.

To achieve the desired effect, the moss undergoes a process of modification after its collection. The internal sap it contains is replaced by a biodegradable substance that is very similar to sugar. This allows the plants to stay fresh, look beautiful and do not require any care.


This material has been named this way, but it is superimposed sheets of Kraft paper that have been compressed by pressure and heat. During its manufacture, this product is injected with a phenolic resin to give it a compact nature. The result is an element with excellent mechanical and electrical properties.

What is Micro-cement?

Micro-cement, currently a global trending decorative material, is a micro-coating composed of  high-performance cement, mixed with polymers, ultra-fine aggregates, additives and natural colour pigments.

Topcret’s Microcemento® adheres to almost all surfaces. What maintenance does Microcement® require?

What is the difference between micro-cement and polished concrete?

While Microcemento®® is a thin coating (approximately 2 and 3 millimeters), polished concrete requires a thickness of between 5 and 7 centimeters. This means that the structural weight of Microcemento® is significantly lower than that of the polished concrete.

In addition, polished concrete requires expansion joints, a feature that Microcemento® does not share. Also, Microcemento® can be placed both vertically and horizontally without a problem.
