The people at Morgan Lovell were tasked with a momentous challenge: renovating a 3,000+ square metre Business Park into a state-of-the-art environment that combined comfort, sustainability and wellbeing for clients like Verizon, Accenture, etc. To achieve this ambitious vision, they chose Topcret® and its innovative Baxab® product.
The project sought to reduce waste generation and minimise the environmental impact of the construction. With the use of Baxab®, it was possible to reuse the existing tiles to create a modern space that reflected the avant-garde spirit of the design, avoiding unnecessary demolition and significantly reducing the amount of construction waste generated. This measure not only saved resources, but also contributed to a more sustainable approach.
The durability and strength of the construction materials were critical to the success of this project. Topcret’s Baxab® proved to be the right choice as it is 3X stronger than other microcements available on the market. This feature ensured that the new installations not only met the highest standards of quality and strength, but were also extremely durable. This durability not only protects the investment long term, but also reduces maintenance costs, which was a crucial factor for the Reading Campus.
Moving away from a reliance on fossil fuels, electric heat pumps have been implemented, and over 95% materials removed from site have been reused. The Social Value Bank has worked alongside the project to track and demonstrate the project’s social impact. The project was awarded a wide range of credentials including BREEAM Excellent, WiredScore Platinum, ActiveScore Gold ratings, WELL Platinum and WELL Health Safety.
In short, the collaboration between Topcret® and the Reading International Business Park culminated in an outstanding success story. The choice of Baxab® enabled the transformation of the campus facilities into a state-of-the-art business centre. Through intelligent reuse, unrivalled resilience and a commitment to wellbeing and sustainability, the Reading International Business Park has become an exemplary model of how businesses can transform their spaces into smart, sustainable and wellbeing-focused environments. This project represents a significant achievement and is an inspiring testament to how Topcret® and Baxab® can contribute to the success of high-quality, sustainable renovation projects.
